Jacobs crew hits ice at The National

The Essar Centre ice is ready for the top men's curling teams on the planet to begin their quest for $100,000 in prize money, when The National gets underway tonight in Sault Ste. Marie.

And Sault's Brad Jacobs rink comes into The National a grand-slam of curling event as the top seeded rink in the world.

“We're feeling pretty relaxed and excited to see what the arena looks like and really just excited to get underway,” said Jacobs, who along with lead Ryan Harnden, second E.J. Harnden and third Ryan Fry, take to the ice tonight at 7 p.m., in Draw 1 against Mark Kean's Stoney Creek, Ont., rink, which is ranked 20th.

Jacobs and his Soo Curlers Association team brought local enthusiasts to their feet several times last season by winning the gold medal for Canada at the Winter Olympics in Sochi, Russia, in February.
